How to Complete a Covering Letter
A well written, concise and personal covering letter can really pave the way for a good CV. Here are a few tips on how to deliver a job application that really makes the most of your qualities.
- Be personal - tell us why you really want the job or have the skills to undertake the task.
- Reference the Job - if the job has a reference number ensure that this is included after the introduction, underlined and centred OR quote the job title and location by name (e.g. Re: PAYE Accountant, Luton). Remember, this might not be the only role advertised and it's vital that your application reaches the right person.
- Be brief - come straight to the point and use the space wisely, selling yourself in way that mirrors the role.
- Contact details - ensure they are correct
- Sign the letter - giving it the personal touch
- Check spelling and grammar - first impressions are vital
- Include a note of the best way we can contact you for an interview
